Maths CCT and Chem OBA.

Maths CCT was just wrong. After mugging all that Geometrical Proofs, staring at Worksheet 1 and 2 for hours, just trying to understand a stupid theorem, what comes out in the CCT? One five mark question. After completing the earlier part of the paper (which I must admit was quite ok), I had around 8 mins left for the last question. I stared at it for five whole minutes, before deciding to check the rest of my answers instead. When I came back - no time left. Why do they even set question more than 50 % of the class can't even solve? I know that because after the CCT, my class went into a rage. Everyone became really pissed, and started telling (or shouting to) each other how they hadn't managed to complete the last question.

EDIT:
Yay! Apparently, part b of the last question has been cancelled (since it cannot be solved), so now the paper is upon 27. Is that a good thing? ._.

Chem OBA, on the other side, was quite ok. It was quite sneaky though, they put a tedious balancing equation just before the last question, so a lot of people got stuck on the balancing equation question, and didn't have time to finish the last question. ):

Sigh. Tests, tests, tests.

On a slightly lighter note, did you know the iPhone was first conceptualized in 1983? (: And it looked like this..

Interesting how a concept can go so far into creating/innovating a product that is now one of the most sold in the world.

Overkill?

I was listening to 987 FM last night, and there was this Michael Jackson song playing (Smooth Criminal). After the song ended, the DJ (the programme was Say it With Music, I think) started talking about how much of an 'overkill' all this media coverage of his death was, and that 'everywhere she looked, she saw something about Michael Jackson'. She even said in a conversation / discussion with a listener that it was so much, that she wanted to 'kill herself'. Yes. Her exact words. At that point, I seriously 'HUHed' aloud.

Personally, I think that not even all this media coverage and all the post-death fame can cover all the bad coverage and notoriety he had received when he was alive. I mean, when he was alive, people accused him of child abuse, plastic surgery, and what not. They didn't stop and think about his past, and bothered to look into what he had been through. And now that he's gone, they respect and admire him, and say 'oh, he was a great man' and 'oh, we will miss him', and what not. It is certainly true that an artist gets more famous when he dies.

In his memorial, Reverend Al Sharpton received a standing ovation when he told MJ's children,

"There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy. It was strange was what your daddy had to deal with."

AHHHH. Why cancel DMP?

I've been waiting for it for so long! To experience something new, to finally take a break from all that mugging, and to catch up on work before the EOYs. Now it's to be substituted with normal lessons.

I'd like to quote here Martin Lim's 'essay'. It's quite interesting, addresses a few concerns regarding H1N1, and how the school has dealt with it / is dealing with it, and it has quite a few pretty good arguments why all these event being cancelled should not be cancelled.

IMHO everything all comes down to how one chooses to look at this outbreak. Most of us Rafflesians have come to regard this outbreak as something inevitable, something unavoidable - it is estimated that there are already more than a million H1N1 cases in the US alone; according to MOH, ‘13% of patients with flu-like symptoms are due to H1N1’. Most of us have realised that it is really quite impossible to contain the spread of the virus, and even the Government has realised this too [viz. the move to ‘mitigation’ instead of ‘containment’, stepping down contact tracing/issuing of HQOs, advising patients with mild symptoms to remain at home instead of hospitalisation etc.] Most of us are going about our normal routines [or trying our best to do so], knowing full well that we might be exposing ourselves to ‘additional’ risks, but also knowing that 1. the virus is still relatively mild and 2. if we get infected - so be it -- essentially we're just taking everything in our stride.

On the other hand, I personally feel that the school has yet to realise this, continuing [to try] to keep us apart and prevent possible transmission. Mr Kwok does have a point, though, in that although measures to ‘distance’ and ‘segregate’ us may be imperfect, they still should still be implemented - some protection is always better than none. But then again, all this comes at a cost. One always has to weigh the benefit brought about by a particular measure against the inconveniences it causes to the school population [i.e. us], and honestly speaking, when the benefit gained is so negligible and the inconveniences so great, it simply makes no sense at all to sacrifice so much just for such meagre added protection. And, of course, in this case the measure that we are talking about would be cancelling DMP.

First, even without DMP, mixing of students would occur anyway. Talks such as the Ambassador's Series are still on, and although recesses and lunches may be split up, there are still two different levels [or more, if one includes those Sec1s and 4s with 3rd period PE] in the canteen. Furthermore, classrooms are still being shared - a notable example being G2-07 and 08, being used by the Sec3 and 4 RA classes as well as Sec3 EL2. This ‘desegregation’ of students is also especially prevalent after school, as more than half of the school population descends onto Junction 8 and the MRT.

True, having DMP would make this problem a little worse, and abolishing it would afford some slight form of protection. However, given the current state of things, it appears that holding DMP would really not have much of an impact. There would be mixing of students and teachers, for sure, but then again teachers are already teaching many different classes and even different levels - and as for us students, we often meet up with other Rafflesians from different classes and levels - our friends, CCA mates [CCAs might be cancelled but we still know each other] and so on. I really don't quite see how having DMP could make this problem much worse.

Second, DMP might actually be a good thing by way of ‘segregation’ and ‘social distancing’. Why so? The DMP timetable is structured differently from the normal school timetable, thus us seniors usually choose to go for recess and lunch at certain times so as to avoid the crowd of Sec1/2s. This serves to reduce the crowd in the canteen - and no, it does not create a new ‘Sec3/4 recess’ - the structure of the DMP timetable [which can provide a great number of free periods] gives us a lot of freedom to choose when we want to eat. Also, many Sec4s utilise the time during the DMP period to study for their EOYs, and thus try to keep their timetables as empty as possible. During these free periods, unless they happen to be sandwiched between two lessons of course, many of us would rather be at home than in school - DMP thus has this added purpose of emptying the school, and also staggering dismissal times - we get to leave after our last period of the day, which can be any time from 9 to 1.

In conclusion, given that the amount of mixing going on in the school right now is still rather significant such that cancelling DMP would have not much of an impact, and from the amount of displeasure generated by the cancellation of DMP - some of which you can already see here - there is really not much of a case for cancelling DMP. Furthermore, one should also consider the intrinsic value of DMP itself - the fun in choosing our own modules, of learning what we want to learn [for a change], and of the knowledge gained through all the modules -- and it soon becomes obvious that cancelling DMP isn't really worth it. In the broader context of things, further spread of H1N1 appears to be unavoidable, and although some protection is usually better than none at all, in this case it really isn't worth it.

So bring back DMP!

School's back on! I don't really know whether I should be happy or sad..

First week of school has been fine, I guess. Quite a lot of work, projects due, and tests. Certainly seems like a 'wake-up call' from all the slacking during the holidays.

The past few weeks (including holidays), I've been going around with 2M people a lot! Lunch many many many times, Raph's house, Raph's house again, Edmund's house, movie, etc, etc.

We've been playing lots and lots of 'Werewolf' (don't ask me why, lol!) and I finally learnt how to play Mahjong! (although I really suck at it :D )

It's been great to go out with old classmates, now that we don't see each other much.. Hopefully we're still as close to each other many years down the road!

Finally. A time for a break from all the hectic work. CCTs, CCA commitments, so on.

But this is not just a holiday. It's a time to reflect on what went wrong, and what went right. in Semester 1, and hopefully start afresh the next semester!

Haha last day of school was fun! First period was a free period, slacked in class playing Buzzer (music quiz). Then was Maths. No comments. (:

Recess, then English! English was great. We had some sort of a mini class party at the 1st floor of SR block, where we could bring our food, and share it while discussing our Social Advocacy Project. BUT THE BEST PART was at the end of the lesson, when one group randomly started playing truth or dare (double dare), and it ended up with hilarious dares! This included dancing randomly in front of RJ and RI people, asking a boy for his number, and so on. (: Haha it was funnyyyy.

After which was SS, continuing with the Performance Task. Haha we were actually counting down the last twenty seconds of school SUPER loudly! Then we asked our SS teacher to help us take a class photo! :D And somehow the whole class went crazy after that. xD

After school, went with Sean, Jia Rong, Raphael, Luo and Edward to Orchard for lunch! Went to Macs, then Pastamania, then Macs, then Pastamania, then decided to sit at Macs and eat Pastamania... ._.

Went back to RI with Sean, while the rest went to Lesmana's house. Took the MRT to Bishan, then decided to take Circle Line to Marymount for the fun of it. Just to try it out. (:

Got down, and walked to RI, then had PM with Shark!

Collected firewood, and collected even more firewood. And then Yong Xin invaded our PM and we had PT and stuff.. :D

Haha Daniel's Ribena got kicked over, and at that moment, there was an axe lying there. How convenient.

Today's talk by the ambassador of Denmark was quite interesting, highlighted how Denmark had a much more easy-going life, and how everyone was very happy with their lives, and at the same time reminded everyone through her speech how Singapore can improve in this field.

After school we did the Maths Performance Task - Yongz, Seh Woon, Gao, Isaac and me. Did it at the reference room in HML. It's a great place for doing/discussing stuff! It's extremely quiet compared to the library itself, and it's much colder and nicer. Nice place. (:

Had a lot of fun there. :D

And I have no idea when the Philo test is - tomorrow or next week.. It would help if teachers told us when tests were..

First time I've gone for CCA for a looooong looooong time.

PM went quite well, I guess. Did a bit of orienteering at first (without maps and compasses -.-), then did survival for quite long to get ready for camp (only to find out it wasn't important??!! they should've told us beforehand what's necessary and what's not, seeing that there's already a lack of time..)

After that was footdrill! How fun. For once, we're the ones standing in front, rather than under the watchful eyes of our seniors. We're the ones, spotting the mistakes, and flicking hands (a way to check whether arms are locked). After a while in the Junior Block, we went to Raffles Square and did some more footdrill. Under the hot sun. (:

Shark's not that bad at footdrill. Better than I thought!

LOL saw Sean, Yang Terng, Lawrence and Raphael during PM. Raphael was following us around the survival part >.<

Ahh. I hope Shark does well in camp.

I'm really really really really really really sorry I can't go for camp. ): Sorry Joshua, and the rest of Shark.

I've realized something.

I score better grades for subjects that I actually have an interest in. This might sound obvious to some people, but it took some time for me to realize that.

Take Maths and Geog for example.

I seriously enjoy doing Maths and I usually attempt to complete any Maths Supplementary Exercise as soon as I get it. I have an interest in it. My GPA in Maths? 4.0.

I won't say I enjoy doing Geog, but I find it extremely interesting. I mean, how can studying the very planet you are living on not be fascinating? Definitely my pick over Lit and History. I have an interest in it. My GPA in Geog? 4.0.

Now, for the other side of the story. Subjects (specially Sciences) such as Chemistry. I'm no Chem enthusiast. I have no particular interest in Chemistry. My GPA for Chem? Let's just say it's not that high.

This is only one such example, but I've found out this important secret (yet oh-so-simple) - Enjoy the subject you are doing, and you'll surely score high for it.

And from now on, I intend to like the subjects that I don't do that well in more. Whether I like it or not. (How ironic :/ )

LONG POST ALERT

If you start reading, you better read the whole thing. :D

Ok, this started out as a class thing. Soccer from 8-9 am. AND THEN ONLY 5 PPL FROM OUR CLASS CAME. Luckily there were 2M'08 ppl and other random NPCC people. (: So we played soccer until 11 am. (I reached school at 9, so I played from 9 to 11).

Then I borrowed a basketball from the Scouts Den. (Sec 4s were having some super sneaky camp discussion). Since Ding Hao refused to let me come up, he threw the ball down. Raph, Luo, Gao, Nick, Jelly and I played a random half court match. (Realized I wasn't as bad as I thought I was at basketball :D Scored a few times..)

Then after that we got tired, and then we went to the canteen to buy drinks from the vending machines and rest.. Gao and Nick went home to play Fifa or something.

Then Luo, Raph, Jelly and I went to Subway! Luo and I bought a drink each, Jelly bought a cookie, and Raph didn't buy anything 'cause today was Good Friday. o.0

Ok here comes the weird part. We sat in Subway for 1 hour ++ discussing religion and stuff. And the philosophy behind it. It was interesting though.. 8D

After that we went to LJS! And we actually had lunch. Luo and I bought the 2 pc Chicken Golden Deal, and Raph, again, didn't eat anything. Lunch was nice. And then we realized Irvin was coming, so we waited for him for about 1 hr sitting down in LJS telling random lame jokes and playing random games on my phone.

Irvin bought 2 pc Chicken Golden Deal. And while he was eating, we were vandalizing the black plastic plate things, and bursting the straws. :D
Luo apparently had this conspiracy theory that they reused those plates.. -.-

And we waited for another 45 mins / 1 hour waiting for the rain to stop. And we just talked. And talked. And talked.

We go back to school! We go to the piano at the ArtsSpace and make random noise / failed music. And get chased out of the ArtsSpace. ):
And the stupid lighting alarm system didn't stop going off, so we didn't dare to play basketball in case someone caught us.. ~.~

So we go to the area outside the hall! (The one above PopCafe) And we start playing a random mutation of Captain's ball (with 4 people). We were seriously bored. Haha.

And here I am now, at home, typing this, proudly saying I wasted the whole of today. Yet, it has been the funnest day of the year for me. :D

NIC + Skating

NIC WAS FUNNNNN! RI InfoComm Club completely owned the NIC (National InfoComm Competition).. Managed to beat HCI for first place (:
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the various competitions.
Oh and by the way.. It was held at Marina Barrage. So had to go there once again.

BUT IS WAS FUN. Raveen, as usual, was grabbing as much food as he could.. -.- And as usual, he caused trouble! (: (By throwing a tennis ball into the fountain/water area place at the Marina Barrage. The security guard, however, found it amusing..) And then there was this band performance.. They were really good, but I didn't manage to catch their name. ):

And at the end of everything, the shuttle bus took us to City Hall instead of Marina Bay.. :D How nice.

But anyway, NIC aside, today was my first skating lesson for CCA. Skating is quite fun, I guess. And I finally managed to move around without falling down! Not bad for a first lesson, eh? :D

Marina Barrage

Haven't posted for quite long. About a week I think..

Anyway, batch outing at Marina Barrage was awesome! (:

We really had a lot of fun together as a batch, and it was great to see that PY and AS were enjoying themselves and weren't disheartened after IAC.

I'm starting to hate the March holidays. Reason? Because they are non-existent.

Three days of Jobweek.

Two days of V-Camp.

Three days of InfoComm Camp.

And what's left? A weekend. That's all I have left to do my Physics Performance Task, my Geography Fieldwork Performance Task and to study for my Maths TA and Chem OBA (which, by the way, is on Monday).

And it doesn't really help either when all your group members aren't online most of the time... ):

Jobweek : Day 1

'Good Afternoon Sir/Madam, we are a group of scouts from 02 Raffles Scout Group, and for our annual Jobweek, we're going around Singapore doing jobs. Do you have any jobs for us?'

I must say that this has been one of the most interesting Jobweeks in my Scouting life. No, seriously. Some events are so retarded (and some are so hilarious), I can't sleep in peace without sharing them. In order;

1 | OMPM! [Owe Money, Pay Money]

OK, firstly, let me say I'm no Picasso, but still.. You must admit this is a 'piece of art'... -.-

I have a sudden liking for pigs. Don't you?

2 | Dance, Dance...

The second one is extremely weird. We knock the door, and this girl (around our age) answers. We do the usual intro (the one at the top) and then she exclaims and says there are no jobs. Then comes the interesting part.

She does some funny dance and exclaims, 'Money, can??'.

It won't sound that funny here, but believe me, Fu Kang and I wanted to burst out laughing right there. [Ask Fu Kang for an excellent re-enactment. He can do it really well.]

3 | Train

OK, this one is plain creepy. CREEPY. So we go to the next floor, and hear someone singing. Terribly. In a loud, screechy, voice. Did I mention it was loud? So we cautiously knock the door. Singing stops, woman opens door. We do the usual introduction, and she looks around for jobs.

Here it comes...

And then she asks us to fix a toy train.

Yes.

A toy train set. [The ones 4 year olds play.]

And the evil person who had opened the door was laughing at us. And so was her daughter. And so was her 4 year old son.

I'm scared.

Help.

I think they're all mad.

And after 20 - 30 mins of hard work, we received two dollars. -.-

(At first it was one, then the daughter took pity on us and gave us another one...)

And that's not all. The woman said that after we were done building, we had to play with it. (But at least for this one, she was joking -.-)

4 | Angry Man

This one is on a more serious note. After we were done with all the jobs and returning to school, we stopped at 7-11 on the way to buy drinks. As we were entering, we heard this man (quite young, in his 20s), chasing (briskly walking) after this guy/girl shouting at the top of his voice about no sense of urgency, and government playing around and stuff.

I have no idea. Don't understand it either. People were staring at him and slowly retreating backwards. Fu Kang and I entered 7-11 and bought our drinks. :D

Lessons that can be learnt

1. Never, ever, attempt to draw pigs if you haven't drawn one before. You'll fail and people will take pictures of it and post it on their blogs.

2. When people are dancing when offering you money, you know something is wrong.

3. Don't even think about entering a house with random people singing random things. At the top of their voices.

Finally done with setting up Fedora dual boot on my Macbook (with all the drivers and stuff). Had a biiigg problem with the lousy Intel GMA950 in my laptop... -.- Anyway, I've just found out that Fedora is a great OS. The graphics engine in the OS is really really powerful. Compiz is just an example of its great potential. From the experience I've had with Fedora 10 so far, F10 has a really smooth and easy to use interface, with animations/effects that will appeal to anyone easily. (Although the setting up may not be that simple for everyone.)

Falling Poles

The internet speed (on LAN) in school is officially the fastest I've ever seen.

As for school today, nothing really significant happened other than the fact that today was the day that I have ever seen three 3-2-1 flagpoles fall down in a row.

A 3-2-1 flagpole is a flagpole, which is made up of 3 five metre spars, 2 three metre spars and 1 two metre spar and tied up together using tripod lashing. So the total height of a 3-2-1 flagpole is around 6-7 metres. It looks like this;

So, during CCA today the Sec 3 batch was taking the 3-2-1 flag decor test, in which you have to erect a flagpole, peg it down by the sides firmly and let it stand in twenty minutes, in groups of four.

As for my group, the first time we took an excellent time of 30 to 40 minutes - a total phailiur.

Our next try, we failed again, though we had improved our timing quite significantly - 28 minutes.

The next try, however, is of great interest. We were just about to hit our time limit of twenty minutes and complete it on time, and just as we were tightening the side guylines (support ropes), the whole flagpole gave way. So, you can imagine how horrific the scene would be, with everyone shouting to clear the area, and people running away from the flagpole, and eventually the 6/7 metre flagpole slamming onto the floor. This is dangerous. People can get seriously injured.

Of course there were consequences, which came in the form of many many many push-ups and crunches and stuff and long lectures by seniors, but I guess they are right. Safety is a big thing.

And what's better (or rather, not), it happened thrice. Once for each group. I have no idea what went wrong - lack of skill, lack of knowledge, lack of manpower or just plain lack of common sense...

What I do know is, that the next time I do flag decor, I'm wearing a helmet or something. o.o

Haven't posted for quite a while..

School's been really hectic lately. Physics quiz/test, two Maths Topical Assessments, a Chemistry Open Book Assessment.

Physics Quiz - Easier than I expected, didn't test much.

Surds Maths TA - Easy! Lost half a mark because I didn't reject... -.-

Co-ord Geom TA - OK, I guess, but it doesn't really help when the first give away question is two marks and the second question, which was also the last, is a quite hard eight mark question..

Chem OBA - Generally easy, but was stuck at B1 (the experiment question). My class got version 2 of the paper (which was apparently the hardest one?) But our Chem teacher was nice about it and gave us extra time. (:

I have finally bought The Orange Box.

For those who don't know what The Orange Box is, Wikipedia:

The compilation contains five games, all powered by Valve's Source engine. Two of the games included, Half-Life 2 and its first expansion,Episode One, were previously released as separate products. Yay. Now I can play Team Fortress 2 online. Actually was going to buy the Team Fortress 2 game by itself, but when I saw that it was 30 dollars and that The Orange Box (which had four more games) was 50 dollars, I decided to buy The Orange Box. The ways they scam us... -.-

Real first day of school

OBS was fun. I won't go into long winded and detailed stories of what happened, but I'll simply say that it was fun. Something that I'll surely remember many years down the road. My watch, Hillary, was great. We really had fun doing all the activities together. I just wish I had brought my camera along. Wish I had pictures... Ubin looked really really great, especially at night, where we camping right in front of the sea. Amazing. I'd rather be back there right now. Seriously.

Anyway, enough about OBS. Now to look forward to the year ahead. Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new year. The real first day of school. With lessons. I only know a few people in 3Q, but from what I've heard, it's really a joker class (in a good way :D ), so can't wait for lessons to begin.

I really can't wait for OBS.. Kayaking, rock climbing, sleeping in the mud... Sounds really fun. Kind of like a scouts camp, except more fun. :P It's times like these I'm thankful for being a scout. NO LAYOUT. WOOHOO. Hope that 3Q can really bond together through OBS. 3Q'09/4Q'10 ftw.

02 Activity... On the first day of school!

The title said it all..

But, it was actually quite fun!

Everyone was split up into groups to do different stuff.. check tentage, air ropes, clean the den, etc. Most of the ~~Sec 3s~~ Sec 4s and a few of the ~~Sec 2s~~ Sec 3s (See? I'm still getting over that...) were chosen to air ropes! How fun...

So many ropes... Luckily it was sunny, although it had rained not very long before this picture was taken.

And not long before Terence happily hijacks my wallet... Apparently looking at my Naruto card which I have clue of where I got it. xP

I guess the first day of school was okay (oh, except for the Amazing Race).. The classroom is kind of cool, and hoping to get to know my new classmates soon..

The end of the holidays...

The start of another school year...

School starts tomorrow. Sigh. I don't know what to expect, what to hope for and what not to hope for. If I'm not wrong, my class (3Q) is on the 6th floor, so walking up and down 6 floors everyday will certainly be fun. Very fun.

Edmund finally starts blogging. After a typing fiasco where he ended up typing (...)@yahooo.com.sg instead of (...)@yahoo.com.sg. Good job, Edmund. Edmund's blog.

Oh, and a Happy New Year. I, for one, still haven't thought of a New Year Resolution...

Recently, I came across an excellent website where you can download almost every single application there is in AppStore (and for free). This is possible by downloading the cracked versions of these applications, which are in the '.ipa' file format. According to iPhone Download Blog, .ipa files are;

.ipa stands for iPhone/iPod Touch Application. This extension developped by Apple is used for applications on iPhone and iPod Touch devices, downloaded from the iTunes App Store.

Yeah, so the website I was talking about is http://iparepo.com.

The website is really great, you can sort all the applications according to date and name, search the applications, and even subscribe to a RSS feed so that you are updated with the latest cracked applications. And it looks nice too! Here's a screenshot of the website.

And when you click on one of the applications, you will see this;

Here, you can download the application, see a description, go to iTunes to see it's 'official' page, and so on...

I cleared up 30 GB of space on my laptop. 30 GB. Wow.
Can't think of anything more, will put more once I remember.

High Speed BSoD on PSP

There's nothing to post about.

Life nowadays is so boring.

I want school to start, yet I don't want the holidays to end.

Sec 3 next year. New classes. New teachers. We even have new pants... *lol*

Sigh.

Anyway, nowadays I've been messing around with my PSP a lot. I recently (in fact, just now) downloaded PSP Custom Firmware 5.0 M33 and its working great. Also dled Tekken Dark Resurrection and Street Fighter Alpha Max (Had to delete DJ Max Portable 2. Will find a better version which is less glitchy...).

I also managed to fix my mother's com! Yay... After weeks and weeks of failed attempts. At first I thought that the problem lied in the graphics card as every single graphics card linked to a graphics driver. But later, after some research, I decided to use the SFC.EXE tool. Worked really great and after a restart it didn't BSoD anymore. Thanks, BleepingComputer!

Up next, a new record! I managed to reach 352 kbps on my Macbook on the 2Wire wireless lan (Mio Plan) set up at my house through the almighty Apple server (was downloading the Mac OS Development Took Kit). Image below.

Woohoo! Foreign Scholars teaching programme is finally over!

Sitting in front of the class, for a change. Feels funny. Haha.

Anyway, been playing a lot of DoTA nowadays... Playing v6.56 AI and non AI, both. Current favourite heroes include Zeus Lord of Olympia, Dwarven Sniper (both range) and Juggernaut for melee.

Next up, the introduction of 'themes' in Google's very own browser, Gmail!

In my opinion, this is an excellent step taken by the Gmail Team. The themes look awesome!

Here's a preview of all of the themes currently included in the Themes tab under Settings (which is on the top right of Gmail).

My current one is the one all the way at the bottom right... (Although I find the bottom left one interesting!)

At first, I didn't see the Themes tab in my Settings until I click here (I think Gmail only activated in a few accounts), so make sure you the click the link above to get the themes working. Have fun customizing your Gmail!

CS Madness

Today was kind of 'more exciting' than other days. I actually left my house. Wow.

Anyway, today, I went with Gao to Edmund's house to work on our ThinkQuest project. (The Northlight School one.)

And by now, you should have realised that I like to use links.

The link obsession aside, I managed to get CS 1.6 working on my Macbook! Yay! (Thanks to CrossOver Games, which I downloaded for free on Free CrossOver Day.)

And then I was randomly doing random stuff while waiting for Gao to set up a server...

That aside, tomorrow and day after tomorrow will be spent teaching all the foreign scholars (IT skills like Flash, Photoshop, Programming and so on) who've gotten into RI for Sec 3 2009 (our next year classmates). This is kind of a good idea... We get to meet our batchmates/classmates for next year early, interact with the scholars and at the same time brush up our own skills...

Course options release in 4 days time.

By the way my top chosen subject combination is Physics-Chemistry-Geography-Computer Elective Programme.

Sigh. The stupid server just can't start up...

Patapon 2

Patapon 2 is coming out (on the PSP)!!!
The official release date is supposed to be 27th November 2008 (9 days from now)!

Yayyyy can't wait for it to come out.

New features will include stuff like a four player multiplayer mode as well as an "evolution map" to upgrade the abilities of the Patapons.

Batch Hike '08

I've started posting all my drafts now.

I thought our second batch hike (actually the first, not counting the one last year as we were broken up into groups) went great. Our batch showed great enthusiasm and willingness to push ourselves beyond our limits and were able to complete 36.5 km on 9 hours (with stops and lunch breaks). We left at 10 am and reached back ant roughly 7 pm.

It's by a Lifehacker user by the name of 'Kaelri'. And don't ask me why he has three clocks. Haha. It has a nice KDE look to it. It's all done for free by the way, you don't have to buy anything. Other than XP, of course.

Just came back home from lanning! :D

This morning there was an InfoComm meeting in which we basically discussed the NorthLight (CIP Project) stuff and stuff about the EOY ICC camp... Then discussed a bit of SDMA with Hubert and Muhaimin.

After that had OBS health check up. Guess what. They ask you your name, then they ask you to squat, stand up and bend over. End of health check up. And the cost? $10. No offence to anyone reading this (whoever that might be), but the price really could be lowered.

Then went to lan at Paradiz with Lesmana, Gao, Wei Xuan, Zhi Yang, Edward and Edmund (hope I didn't miss anyone out, apart from the people who went to the other lan centre -.-). First we lanned Dota, but then i quit at Level 9(.5) cuz everyone started quitting. Lol. Then started playing CS 1.6. One of the best games made in the world. The thrill, the gameplay, the graphics, they all rule. (BTW I'm not addicted. I hardly play it. Haha.)

TEAM FORTRESS COULDN'T WORK. AAARH. Was very pissed with the lan centre for that. But, not bad, for $1.50 an hour. Then ate at the McDonald's outside the lan centre.

Guess what. After that, Gao Ming, Edmund and I walked all the way from Dhoby Ghuat to Novena. xD. Then from Novena we took a bus to Toa Payoh interchange, and I took a bus home. Haha what a waste of time. But it was fun, and there's not much to do after EOYs anyway.

Nothing much happened today after Science EOY. Went to Subway to eat with Gao Ming and Marcus, then Gao Ming came to my house to play Halo. xD

Geog was quite good. Hope I get 4.0.

History was ok except for the 1st part of the 1st question! (The picture one.) And luckily I studied for that essay question.

Maths was somewhere between easy and hard. The difficulty level ranged greatly from question to question. I think they should have kept it constant throughout.

Sorry for the late post. Too busy trying to understand A-T-C-G.

English is over. Finally. I think I screwed up my comprehension, but I guess the lit essay went well. Geog, History and Maths in a row!

Geog next. Notes will be out in about 4 hours (by Irvin, of course! :P) But that's not to say I haven't started studying Geog (only a bit though).

AND I just realised! The RA website says that they only see the end of year results for the second window entry ( at first I thought they look at the overall results), so I still have a chance! My aim is to apply for one RA (I still don't know which one, probably the one I did best in for EOYs). So I'm still hoping for the best... and mugging hard...

I haz jailbroken my iPhone!

Ok, I've finally jailbroken my iPhone (3G, firmware 2.1, 5F136). Yay! Through all the forums/discussion threads I have read, I'm not sure why so many people say jailbreaking causes glitches and slows down your phone, and so on. I know this might sound weird, but jailbreaking my phone actually increased the speed (as well as the wlan speed). Don't ask me how, I have no idea myself. The process was really simple and in the end you get loads of new features and customization options as well as loads of free apps. I used a really simple tool called QuickPwn, made by the geniuses at the iPhone DevTeam. (They have both Windows and Mac versions.) If you want some advanced options you might want to look into Pwnage Tool, which is also by the iPhone DevTeam.

My jailbroken phone! See the carrier! (Singtel ==>Sudeep) And the dock can now support more than 3 icons.

The official 'downloader' for jailbroken iPhones. Here you can download stuff like apps, themes and so on. (This is the successor of Installer.app)

And now I can play Quake on my iPhone. How cool is that. (I just found out there are Halo patches to make the Quake engine run Halo. Gonna look into that soon :D.)

And now my Safari looks like Chrome. :P (I downloaded the Safari theme from Cydia.)

And then there's this cool app that lets you run your apps in the background. So for example you can listen to music while browsing the web on Safari.

All in all, with the advancement of the jailbreaking scene, more and more apps are coming under the light. We just have to wait and see what happens next. (I doubt anything serious will happen unless St3v3 J0bs decides to sue someone over this.) Great job DevTeam!

RE Congress

RE Congress was ok, I guess, surely better than last year's one. But I didn't bother to get the 'RI Tee' thing (an incentive to complete the RE-SL Booklet thing, I must admit it was a pretty good idea, the Sec 1s were trying to finish the booklet as fast as they could) as much as I did for the 'RI Dangle' they had for the Congress last year. I didn't manage to get candy floss. Ohno. Anyway, as I said, this years' one was way better. We had a talk by Dr. William Tan (which was quite good), in which he talked about his life struggles, etc.

Then we had a 40 minute recess. Whoo. Could see Lesmana running for the canteen to get his food faster.

After that we had to sit in the Auditorium (my all time favourite assembly place) and listen to a few RE groups present their findings and process and so on throughout the whole year. I particularly liked the Destination Imagination performance and the business in school group (the Envite group) (I might be partial to the latter because they used Keynote. :D). The characters in the DI performance were hilarious! The Chinese accent guy and Shan Zhi acted really well (as well as the cross-dress guy who refused to reveal himself).

Then was some History extra class thing. Quite ok. Got the answers for the two questions we were supposed to do in the last last history extra class. And while I was furiously attempting to finish copying the essay from the screen, Edmund called me. Apparently he didn't know where it was. How clever.

Then I went with Lesmana and Edward to RJ for lunch, and you can guess what happened. As usual, he snatched my phone from me to play tap-tap.

Merchant of Venice : Drama Challenge

Yeah, I know this is kinda old, but then again, I don't have much to blog about...

I think the performance 2M put up was quite well done, and the only thing we didn't do well in was the oral defense (we all know who's fault that is, don't we?). Anyway, here are some parts of my extremely long (maybe too long) reflections...

The Merchant of Venice Drama Challenge has certainly been an enriching and enjoyable process and I have learnt greatly from the experience I have gained. It is quite hard to think of how else I could have achieved this invaluable experience of working as a class together, and overall coming up with a play.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the Merchant of Venice Drama Challenge has been beneficial to me greatly. It has increased my knowledge and understanding of Shakespeare better, taught me many skills such as team work, designing and painting, and brought me closer to my class.
